There is something special about the off season that emanates this enchanting feeling in the town of Crested Butte. As huge crowds of people disperse, and most of the leaves have already fallen, and the most beautiful snow gently covers the mountain peaks, one can truly appreciate the authenticity of this mountain town community. It’s a brief period where most locals can sit back and relax while they wait for the winter peak season to start.
There are several tourists here and there that come visit during this time, and for me, I consider them very lucky. Imagine walking around the spacious street of downtown with no one bumping into you, and think about all the awesome discounts one can get for certain restaurants and hotels.
With my experience living here since 2003, I have learned that many tourists tend to wean away from visiting our town during off season, in fear that there is nothing to do, or that many establishments, primarily restaurants, are closed. Winter day opening for CBMR will be November 27th and will be open to the public for winter activities. It’s not necessarily true that there are no restaurants opened. In fact, the table below has detailed information on restaurants opened during the off season, provided by Crested Butte/Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce.

With all the beautiful scenery, great reasonably priced food, cozy, and romantic accommodations in an atmospheric mountain town, it’s easy to see why most people fall in love with what Crested Butte has to offer.
If you need a vacation from the hustle and bustle of the city life, consider visiting Crested Butte during the off season.
