But did you know that the town of Crested Butte is rich in culture and history? Besides being known as Colorado's wildflower capital and fondly referred to as 'The Last Great Colorado Ski Town', the place was originally a mining town.
In the 1860s to the 1870s the towns industry’s main source of income was coal and silver mining. Due to this, many towns were formed but unfortunately, the mining of silver began to decline and many towns were dissolved. The town of Crested Butte, fortunately, managed to survive the decline since it was the supply town to the surrounding towns at that time.
For people that want to learn more about Crested Butte away from a computer or a library, the Crested Butte's museum is reaching to the public in innovative ways for everyone not only to learn about the history of this great community but to experience it by walking through town.
