The 2019/2020 Opening Day is a very big deal for Mt. Crested Butte and the surrounding communities. Mt. Crested Butte, after all, is a resort area, and the success of our economy is largely based upon the success of the resort.
Tourism, as an industry, takes up about 75-80% of our economy, and a lot of the other industries greatly benefit from this, especially real estate. We can have 10,000-15,000 or more people in town at once during the peak of summer (June-August), and just as many people or more during winter peak season (January-March). Statistics even show that the numbers are growing each year.
If you check our community’s history, you can easily see how tourism saved this once coal mining town to becoming a ghost town. If you are interested in learning more about the history of our community, then I urge you to take The Crested Butte’s Historic Walking Tour that conduct tours, even in winter.

This year, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) will open the resort Wednesday, November 27, at 9 am. This will be a celebration for the coming 2019-2020 festivities. There will be live music, a complimentary champagne toast, and much more. The celebration will also support local youth to participate in snow sports this winter season! These dates are subject to change at Crested Butte’s discretion based on weather and snowfall. Estimated dates are based on historical averages or advice from the resort.

If you’re one who enjoys the thrills of winter activities, come and visit the town, known to be the birthplace of fun winter sports. If you are one who would like to visit our town of Crested Butte and Gunnison? We have information for you to read, to help you get here with the Winter 2019 GUC Flight Schedule.

If you are thinking about making a real estate purchase, or if you are ready to sell, let me buy you a cup of coffee and let’s discuss Crested Butte’s potential. Who do you know that wants to buy or sell a property? Let The Heather Woodward Team help. You can contact me on my cell phone (970)596-1394 or send me an email at
